John Prine is an American country/folk singer-songwriter. He has been active as a recording artist and live performer since the early 1970s. He wrote and performed the song “Angel from Montgomery,” which was subsequently recorded by Bonnie Raitt. Prine and Raitt have sung the song as a duo.

Prine primarily plays a Martin D-28 and a Gibson J-200. He uses the Martin D-28 for fingerpicking and the Gibson J-200 for strumming.
