Description: Dick Dale EDIT

Dick Dale (born Richard Anthony Monsour on May 4, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts) is a surf-rock guitarist, known as “The King Of The Surf Guitar”. He experimented with reverberation and made use of custom made Fender amplifiers, including the first-ever 100-watt guitar amplifier.

Growing up Dale learned to play the drums, the ukulele, the trumpet and finally the guitar. Dick Dale is a left-handed guitarist that played the guitar upside down without restringing the guitar. Dale also uses very heavy gauge strings (16p, 18p, 20p. 38w, 48w, 58w). As a guitarist Dick Dale tried to recreate the sounds he heard while he was surfing and became a pioneer in the use of heavy reverb and tremolo picking.

Dick Dale is associated with Fender Stratocaster guitars, Fender Showman amps and the Fender Reverb Unit.
