David Byrne and Brian Eno have just finished collaborating on a new album titled Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.  To celebrate the new album they’ve decided to provide a “free” download of one of their tracks - “Strange Overtones”. However, to get the track you’ll need to pay with an email address.

Releasing a free track is great way to create interest for the new album and hopefully drive sales of the full length album as well.  It’s an interesting marketing approach that’s somewhere between letting users decide how much to pay, like Radiohead’s “In Rainbows” where 1/3 of downloads paid nothing, or using more traditional methods like the checkout stand at Starbucks.
