Line 6’s BackTrack
Line 6 is releasing a simple, easy-to-use guitar recording device called the BackTrack that allows you to record up to 12 hours of music and ideas. The idea is pretty neat - you just plug your guitar into the BackTrack and just start playing/practicing - it’s always on, like a DVR for your TV. If you like a certain riff or solo, you hit a marker button that stores a kind of bookmark so you can go back later.
The BackTrack also has an output so you can run your guitar to your amp as you normally would. There’s also a version that includes a condenser mic so you can record the entire band.
You’ll have to upload your music to your computer and since it does not come with amp models, you’ll need to apply modeling with whatever recording software you have on your computer.
I like really like this dead simple method for recording. Often times I find the set up of recording to be a barrier to getting myself to record more ideas. I could see something like the BackTrack helping me capture more of my ideas as they come.
