As we all know, choosing between guitars can be enormously difficult.  Rarely, does that perfect guitar just cry out to you.  Rather, there is usually some sort of trade off.  We have all faced these challenges.  The neck of one feels good but you like the body shape of the other.  The one that sounds the best has a sunburst top and you want natural.  The guitar that looks and sounds perfect is way out of your price range.  One can go back and forth with no easy resolution.

While looking for a good image of a guitar today, I stumbled on the delightful blog of a woman who goes by the name of “savorie.”  In it, she details the day she spent at Gryphon Stringed Instruments trying to choose between the Martin D-15 and the Taylor GA3.  There are some great lessons in her story.  In particular, her story highlights the fact that with a few minor modifications a guitar that is trailing can leap ahead at the finish line.
