Eastman Guitars: Another Chinese Contender

We have written before about the impressive guitars we have seen that were made in China including a great variety of guitars made by Blueridge and Recording King.  We hadn’t heard of Eastman Guitars - until we read about them in Acoustic Guitar Magazine today.  It turns out the company has been building stringed instruments in China since 1992 but only recently started building guitars in 2002.  They started with archtops have since moved onto flattop acoustics.

AGM reviewed the Eastman AC320 - the company’s sitka spruce top/mahogany back and sides dreadnought ($625 street) and found it to be a “well-built and terrific sounding guitar suited to styles from the precision picking of brisk bluegrass to the strumming of introspective pop.”

It sounds like it isn’t just going to be Blueridge and Recording King that are going to get a run for their money, but quite possibly Martin and Taylor as well.

Hey, just came across you Eastman review. In December 09 I bought an Eastman AC320 from Acoustic Music.Org. They had ordered it with a few changes like the shape of the headstock and different tuners and most importantly an Adirondack spruce top. I’ve been playing it for a year now and it and every time I play it I just can’t put it down. It plays beautifully and sounds amazing. It just inspires me to make music. The day I bought it I actually went into the store planning to buy another Martin or maybe a Bourgeois but couldn’t put down the Eastman. I got a priceless instrument for half of what I expected to spend. I highly recommend anyone looking to buy, consider playing an Eastman.
