George Harrison’s 12 String Rickenbacker 360

When Brian and I started Fretbase, we were especially interested in the gear that was used by our favorite guitarists. But some days we feel like we could just focus on how The Beatles got the great sound they did. Because, let’s face it, there is just nothing like them. So we were pretty excited when the folks at Gibson Lifestyle wrote such a great article about the Rickenbacker 360/12 played by George Harrison. That’s right, a great article by the people at Gibson that isn’t about a Gibson.  Full story…

In the words of Gibson Lifestyle:

For a period of a couple years from 1964, the Rickenbacker 360/12 12-string electric guitar served as exactly that for Harrison: it was the sonic attention getter, it helped many Beatles classics to really pop.

Do you need any more information than that to raise your interest? If so, just listen to the intro to A Hard Day’s Night and you’ll get it.  Harrison used the Rickenbacker 360 12-string extensively during the recording of that album.
