Epiphone Adds a 1966 to the Wilshire Lineup
A ways back we covered the announcement that the Gibson Custom Shop was reissuing the 1962 Epiphone Wilshire with a 100 instrument run and a street price around $2,900.00 USD. Epiphone followed that up with the Epiphone Wilshire Limited Edition – an “economical” ($250 street) version of the guitar with humbuckers and block inlays and a slightly more “Fender-esque” body shape.
Now we have the Epiphone Wilshire 1966 with NY Mini-humbuckers and in Aged Cherry, Worn Cherry and Worn Black finishes for the vintage vibe.
Most early Epiphone guitars including the Wilshire were equipped with mini-humbucking pickups and Epiphone carries on this tradition. With its smaller size, narrow magnetic field and unique design combination, the mini-humbucker produces bright and focused output while retaining famous humbucker “hum-free” performance. A replica of the originals, they feature adjustable pole pieces, enamel wire, bar ceramic magnets and rounded nickel plated covers set in an original style black mounting ring with height adjustment screws.

I love these guitars, but wasn’t prepared to pay $3000 for one. I will definitely be investigating one of these though!
A good case is essential if you’re lugging your valuable instrument around with you. The more valuable the instrument, the more it is likely to cost to repair and the more you should be prepared to spend on a good case.

You gotta love mini humbuckers. You get both benefits, from single coil and humbuckers. And it sounds so soft.
