Guitar Walk-Thru of John Prine’s “Hello In There”
John Prine is a national treasure. He usually turns pretty straightforward and classic fingerstyle chord playing (think variations on G, C, F & D) into beautiful guitar tunes played alongside humorous or poignant lyrics. While never a top-selling artist, Prine has enjoyed consistent success over the course of his 40 year career and he continues to tour. He killed it in a concert in San Francisco in 2009. Bob Dylan even named John Prine as one of his favorite songwriters.
And when it comes to walk-thrus of songs on guitar, nobody does a better job than David Hodge of Guitar Noise. The best thing about Hodge is that he takes his time. He explains the tricky passages both in audio format (streamed directly from Guitar Noise) and also in text. And of course, his tabs are spot on. Believe me, if we lived anywhere near Great Barrington, Massachusetts, we’d do all we could to take lessons from Hodge.
So you can imagine our excitement when David Hodge recently posted a walk-thru of John Prine’s “Hello In There.” He actually goes so far as to explain the song in a few different keys. Affter a walk-thru from Hodge and with some practice, you should be able to play this wonderful song perfectly.
