Just in time for NAMM 2010, Fender is announcing a new line of guitars called Fender American Special Series. The idea is create a solid, American made Fender that will be more affordable to the everyday guitar player. Can you say “recession buster!”
The new line up will include three guitars - a Stratocaster and a Stratocaster HSS along with a Telecaster version. Check out the video…

Lately, Brian and I can’t go anywhere without being asked this question:
“What are the most popular guitars on Fretbase?”
It’s getting crazy. We’re at breakfast and we get asked, “What are the most popular guitars on Fretbase?” We get a bagel with our morning coffee and we’re asked, “What are the most popular guitars on Fretbase?” We go out to lunch and people ask, “What are the most popular guitars on Fretbase?” When we walk to the 7-11 for a Pay Day bar, the guy behind the counter asks, “What are the most popular guitars on Fretbase?” At dinner we get the same question, “What are the most popular guitars on Fretbase?” Same thing during dessert. The next thing you know, we won’t be able to have a midnight snack without getting a call, “What are the most popular guitars on Fretbase?”

I know that when you first read the headline you were optimistic that this would be an article about Heidi Klum (see relevant video here), but I’m not talking about female models. I’m talking about *guitar* models.
Inc. Magazine recently published an in-depth story of the making of Guitar Hero and Rock Band. It is a great story about the long and winding road to creating the games that went on to gross billions (yes, billions) in sales. But we’re not that into Guitar Hero and Rock Band. We’re into real guitars. The story identifies the real-life guitars used as models for Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Do you know what they were?

We’re writing to let you know about some big improvements on Fretbase.
In the beginning, we wanted to build a website and community for guitarists built on a database of important guitar-related info. In fact, the “base” in our name refers to that database. (And “Fret” refers to the frets in a guitar – not what our families have been doing since we started this venture.)
Today we launched the Fretbase database along with a number of other useful features. We’re fired up to tell you about them.
Most importantly, we want Fretbase to be useful for all guitarists. If you have feedback, we’re eager to get it. Just post in our comments.
