Gibson Introduces a New Angus Young SG

picture-1Gibson has announced two new versions of the Angus Young SG.  The first is from Gibson’s Custom Shop and comes in a custom-designed Angus Cherry finish - kind of dark cherry.  The second version of the Angus Young SG is from their US shops and comes in a high-gloss ebony black finish.

You might remember Gibson’s original Angus Young SG featured a Maestro Lyre Vibrola tremolo engraved with lighting bolts and “Angus”.  These updates don’t have the trem bar but they do feature some nice lighting bolt inlays in the fretboard.

Gibson’s Homage To The Kalamazoo Epiphones

Gibson has introduced a new series of guitars called the “Epiphone Historic Custom USA” to commemorate the Gibson-built Epiphone models that came out of their operations in Kalamazoo, Michigan from 1959 to the early ’70s. The first model in this new series is the Epiphone 1962 Wilshire reissue.

Gibson Lifestyle has a great write up on the history of the Epiphone Wilshire.  What’s interesting is how underrated these Epiphones were at the time and how they’re now sought after on the vintage market.  Full Story…
