After months of anticipation I finally had the chance to go see the guitar documentary It Might Get Loud. The film features the stories of Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White covering their childhood experiences growing up playing guitar, some of their main influences and talking about some of their favorite guitars.
It seems like a film starring these three rock gods couldn’t go wrong and for the most part the film does it’s job of entertaining us with the background of each of these guitar players. But when the three guitar players are put together in the same room, their different respective backgrounds and how they came to play their music reveals many differences. The Edge’s simple, layered approach was born out of desire to move away from the Jimmy Page guitar-gods of the early ’70s. While Jack White’s stripped down, analog sound was a movement away from the processed, compressed sound that was prevalent during U2’s heyday in the 80s. Director Davis Guggenheim puts the three of them together in hopes that something magical might happen, but in the end the jam sessions leave much to be desired.

We’ve reported on the upcoming documentary “It Might Get Loud” in previous posts here and here. It looks the movie now has an official trailer that’s been released today. If you’re not familiar with “It Might Get Loud”, it’s a documentary that brings together Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White and explores their various backgrounds. Needless to say this movie should be on the top of every guitar player’s movie list.
Guitar World is also going to release an interview with the trio in the upcoming July 2009 issue.

Back in September 2008 we mentioned a new documentary coming out called “It Might Get Loud“. The film takes a close look at three guitar players from different generations and explores their roots and how they got started on the guitar. At the end three guitar players come together for a jam session, teaching each other their songs and how they played them. Wait, did I mention the three guitar players are Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White? Yeah… “It Might Get Loud” might get totally amazing! Full story…
