Saul Hudson, as he was known before given the nickname “Slash” by family friend Seymour Cassel because he “was always in a hurry, zipping around from one thing to another” is zipping around working on a new solo album.

Favorite Guitar of Slash, Richie Sambora and Billy Gibbons

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Rolling Stone Magazine just published a good article in which Slash, Richie Sambora and Billy Gibbons (from ZZ Top) talk about their first and favorite guitar.  Which is it?

You guessed it.  The Gibson Les Paul.  Who doesn’t love that guitar?

Richie Sambora offers the best explanation for why it had to be the Les Paul:

All my heroes were playing them — God, everybody. I just thought it was the most powerful guitar. It was sexy. It’s got the most output. You plug it into a good amplifier, you’re gong to get more out of it. That’s my staple when I go to a session, my ‘59 custom.

Who is your favorite player of the Les Paul?  Let us know in the comments.  Or better yet, if that person isn’t already there add them to the Gibson Les Paul page on Fretbase.

Gibson Guitar Remakes Slash’s Stolen Les Paul Goldtop

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

I guard my instruments under lock and key.  I do that because if somebody were to walk off with one of my treasured Martins, I couldn’t really call C. F. Martin IV and ask for a replacement given that I’m just a  junior editor at Fretbase.

But when you are Slash from Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver, things are a little different.

In 1998, Slash’s studio was robbed and all of his guitars were stolen including a 1991 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop.  Gibson decided to recreate the instrument for Slash.  Needless to say he’s pretty happy with it.  In fact, Gibson liked it so much that they created a new Slash signature model.
