One of the longest standing websites for musicians on the web has rolled out a new design this past weekend. Harmony Central is a message boards and gear review community site that’s been around since 1995 and has one of the largest musician communities on the web.
Massive redesigns can be a tough sell to hardcore users who are accustomed to the old navigation and functionality of the website. While the new design promises to deliver a better experience, it seems users aren’t so sure.

We’ve recently rolled out some improvements to Fretbase that we wanted to share with everyone. We all have a deep passion for guitars and gear and we’ve all spent a pretty penny over the years building our collection. Every time I meet a guitarist the conversation inevitably turns to our collections and what we’re hoping to acquire next. To help facilitate that conversation, we’ve built profile pages so you can showcase your guitars and gear as well as what gear you want!

Last week we featured TourSavant.com as handy way to help plan a tour. But before you plan a tour, you’ll need to promote. Building a loyal audience that can help your band fill gigs will ensure bar and venue owners will keep calling you back for more shows. Almost every band, big and small, has a website because it provides a good way for you to reach fans and sell merchandise.
If you’re ready to take the next step beyond MySpace and create a professional band website you should check out BandWebsiteTheme.com. As the name implies, it’s a service that helps you build a custom website for your band. (more…)

TinyLick.com is a free web-based service that enables guitarists to create and share their licks online. You may have noticed something different about Fretbase lately. We’ve been working on some improvements to the website and we hope everyone is enjoying some of the new and improved features. Fretbase is a structured wiki of guitars, gears, artists and songs that can be edited by anyone. It’s meant to be a resource for guitar players looking to research guitars, gear or find out what they’re favorite artist uses to create their sound.
Here are some of the new features:
- Gear: We’ve added amplifiers, effects, strings and other related gear to the site
- Reviews: You can now write reviews of our guitars and gear – we want to hear what you think!
- Homepage: Highlights the most popular stuff in our database and shows stories from around the web
- New Logo: We have a really nice logo now
(Thanks TJ!)
Our goal continues to be to create the best archive of guitars and guitar related information so that we can become your online resource for all things guitar-related. Please let us know what you think!
