Description: Marshall JCM2000 DSL401EDIT
The Marshall JCM2000 DSL401 combo amp is part of the JCM2000 Dual Super Lead (DSL) series. Marshall made two JCM2000 combos – the 401 and 201 – 40 watts and 20 watts respectively. The DSL401 offers two channels “Clean” and “Overdrive”. Further the “Overdrive” channel can be switched between OD1 and OD2. OD2 offers another 20dB of volume as well as increased gain in the signal. The DSL401 also offers a parallel FX loop and a large spring ‘Sound Enhancements’ reverb with a “Mix” control.
The Marshall DSL401 is powered by EL84 output values which are often used in smaller “British-style” amps. The pre-amp section uses ECC83 or 12AX7 valves. The combo amp comes with a footswitch that allows the user to select between “Clean” and “Overdrive” as well as “OD1” and “OD2”.

Versatile amp that can do classic and hard rock
- Pros: Clean, OD1 and OD2 give a lot tonal options, good built-in reverb
- Cons: EL84s have a lot of treble, single coil pickups sounded a bit harsh
