Gretsch Jet Firebird Malcolm Young

The Gretsch G6131SMY, G6131SMYF, G6131SMYR Malcolm Young I Signature guitar is a replica of Malcolm Young’s 1963 Jet Firebird with a set up similar to how Malcolm has customized his own Jet Firebird.

Malcolm Young’s playing is often considered to be the core of AC/DC’s high voltage sound. Malcolm’s orginal Jet Firebird had the neck and middle pickups removed and at one point filled in with the socks. However, Gretsch’s replica doesn’t have the routing holes left by the removed pickups.

Gretsch has kept the guitar very simple, including a single Filtertron pickup, one master volume and one tone control, however you can opt for a two pickup model. The Gretsch G6131SMY has a semi-hollow body and Gretsch has also included a Badass bridge – a modification that Malcolm did to his original Gretsch Firebird but has since switched back to the original trapeze bridge.
