Description: Gibson Michael Bloomfield 1959 Les Paul StandardEDIT
The Gibson Michael Bloomfield 1959 Les Paul Standard is a Gibson Custom Shop model recreating the 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard Michael Bloomfield had played from 1966 to the mid 1970s. The guitar was limited to 100 aged models built by Tom Murphy of the Gibson Custom Shop, with another 200 given the popular V.O.S. (Vintage Original Specs) treatment.
Bloomfield acquired the original guitar in 1966 from guitar technician Dan Erlewine by trading his 1954 Les Paul Gold Top plus $100 in cash. Bloomfield lost his 1959 Gibson Les Paul in either 1974 or ’75, and it is rumored that a venue owner in Vancouver retained it as payment for an no-show on a gig. Its current whereabouts are unknown. Bloomfield passed away in 1981 of an accidental drug overdose.
Gibson recreated the original through photographic records of the original Bloomfield 1959 Les Paul Standard.
