  • Pros: sounds very good for the money
  • Cons: necks a little wide at 13/16
  • Experience: I own it
  • if you are looking for a 12 fret this guitar is really a very good buy. I bought mine from a store that had it in stock. I always hesitate to buy something sight unseen. This one has perfect intenation and a really good sound for the money.

  • Pros: Workmanship, wood selection, tone, playability, looks, clarity, 12-fret
  • Cons: not US made, barebones neck (no inlay) despite beautiful rosewood, sans pickup
  • Experience: I own it
  • I'd like to do a test. I'd like to sand off the Martin logo and then put that logo on the Recording King. Then switch the price tags. I guarantee the "sounds good for the money" set would say the same thing about the Martin. We are all led to believe that inexpensive is somehow not as good, but it simply isn't always so. The sound, clarity, balance, and physical beauty of this instrument is equal to much higher priced guitars (I know, I own them) and despite it not being US-made, comes with a respect for a style of guitar that only overpriced independent luthiers (who somehow think their work deserves $4K price tags)seem interested in making. The 12-fret neck on a full sized body give it a punch and playability that undermines any worry about neck width. I do not have long fingers, but found the neck to be perfect for finger-style playing only after a few minutes. If you can afford the Martin/Taylor/Larrivee/Olsen, etc. guitar, go for it. If you can't, then avoid the absolute junk that is usually found in this price range and grab this truly wonderful instrument.
