Description: Fender American Special TelecasterEDIT

The Fender American Special Telecaster was launched at the winter NAMM show in 2010. The American Special series are constructed in the U.S. and are designed to be more affordable to the everyday musicians than some of Fender’s more top-of-the-line U.S.-made guitars.

The American Special Telecaster features include an alder body with gloss urethane finish, 9.5”-radius maple neck, jumbo frets, Texas Special pickups, and vintage-style three-brass-saddle strings-through-body Telecaster bridge. Fender has also included the Greasebucket tone circuit that’s design to roll off tone without adding bass to the signal.

Other Fender guitars included in the American Special series include the American Special Stratocaster and the American Special Stratocaster HSS. Street price for these guitars is around $800.00 USD.

  • Pros: Quality, fit and finish. Components top notch. Neat touches like brass saddles, texas pickups, roller string guides on the neck
  • Cons: Gig bag only, no lead or strap - Come on Fender, these are pence to you. I'll be changing to 10's too. 9's are too flimsy for me.
  • Experience: I own it

  • Pros: I opened the box when the new American Special Telecaster arrived with some hesitation, expecting some concessions since the price is approx. $200 less than the Am. Std. but was pleasantly surprised. Excellent fit and finish in a gorgeous Oly White.
  • Cons: The only complaint I have is that the guitar came strung with slinky super light gauge strings and I'll be changing those to a regular light gauge(.10) string for better tone and plyability that better fits my style.
  • Experience: I've used it
  • I highly recommend this guitar for anyone considering a telecaster, either the Mexican version or...
