Reviews: Fender American Special Telecaster
American Special Telecaster. Wowwwww........

- Pros: Quality, fit and finish. Components top notch. Neat touches like brass saddles, texas pickups, roller string guides on the neck
- Cons: Gig bag only, no lead or strap - Come on Fender, these are pence to you. I'll be changing to 10's too. 9's are too flimsy for me.
- Experience: I own it
I went to Music Bros in Shrewsbury with the intention of buying a Classic Vibe Squier Telecaster (£220). When I tried it, I could tell it was built down to a price - perfectly acceptable and perfectly useable guitar. So I tried a Mexican Tele (£420). Wow what a difference - the tone, the smooth feel of the controls and the excellent finish. Gig with this with confidence.
My wife who is also usually my financial advisor pointed out the American Special Telecaster in Olympic White (£699) that was hanging on a pillar by itself. I gave a it a go and was blown away by the tone of the Texas pick-ups, the sounds from the "greasebucket" tone control. The fit and finish is superb and it looks like a classic.
This guitar had only just arrived in the shop the day before and I was the first to plug it in. One of the Shop Owners Clive was waiting for a quiet moment to give it a go. Sorry mate, it's for my hands only.
You know when you've married the right woman - it was her that persuaded me to buy the American over the Mexican. Love yer loads Julie X.
A hardcase is now on order to protect my investment - for the Guitar, not the missus!!!- Was this review helpful? Yes - No
Great Tele for a Great Price!

- Pros: I opened the box when the new American Special Telecaster arrived with some hesitation, expecting some concessions since the price is approx. $200 less than the Am. Std. but was pleasantly surprised. Excellent fit and finish in a gorgeous Oly White.
- Cons: The only complaint I have is that the guitar came strung with slinky super light gauge strings and I'll be changing those to a regular light gauge(.10) string for better tone and plyability that better fits my style.
- Experience: I've used it
I highly recommend this guitar for anyone considering a telecaster, either the Mexican version or the Am. Std. For a little more or a little less respecitively, you get a fantastic USA made tele with a great finish, and tone to match. It only comes with a gig bag but it's easy to get a cool Fender Hard Shell case in the aftermarket if you choose. Way to go Fender....I think you'll sell alot of these.
