Description: Fender American Special StratocasterEDIT
The Fender American Special Stratocaster is a U.S.-made Strat that’s been designed to be a more economical version of the classic American Standard Strat by leveraging less expensive hardware and manufacturing. The American Special series offers a good compromise between quality craftsmanship and price.
Fender says the series was built “by the people and for people” as value-conscious “guitars for the times.” They are designed specifically to bring the full Fender experience of a terrific-sounding, smooth-playing, rock-solid-built U.S.-made Fender guitar to the workingman without emptying the bank account.
The series shares much with the Highway One and American Standard series with features including an alder body with gloss urethane finish, 9.5”-radius maple neck, large ’70s style headstock, jumbo frets, Texas Special pickups and vintage-style synchronized tremolo. Fender has also included their Greasebucket tone circuit that rolls off highs without adding bass to the signal.

Awesome bang for the buck!
- Pros: The finish is beautiful (2-tone sunburst). I find the neck extremely comfortable and easy to play. It just feels very well made, even when compared to higher-end guitars.
- Cons: As others have mentioned, it doesn't come with a case. But I want to save up for a vintage-looking tweed case anyway, so that's not even that big of a deal for me.
