  • Pros: Beautiful guitar to look at. Nice aging toner, ebony fretboard and wonderful Martin OM shape. This guitar is great for fingerpickers but also sounds pretty good strummed.
  • Cons: I personally am not crazy about the V-shaped neck. Some people love it, but before buying this guitar i would play a few with a v-shaped neck to make sure you like it.
  • Experience: I own it
  • I am very, very happy with my Martin OM-28V. It is the perfect guitar for the regular fingerstyle player that occasionally wants to strum one out. It's sound is the perfect OM sound. I think it is also the most beautiful of the Martin OM line. The ebony fretboard alone makes it stand out over the Martin OM-21 and the toner on the top is the perfect color. The finishes are all just right including the fretboard inlays and the pickguard. Overall, this is a tremendous guitar and I think one of the treasures in the Martin lineup.

  • Pros: the sound, the sustain, the looks!
  • Cons: There's nothing I dislike about this guitar
  • Experience: I own it
  • The OM28V seems to have taken its place in Martin history. I have been unable to find any reports of "uneven" production, as some have found with, for instance, the 000-28EC model.

Some have written that they have demo'd two Clapton models, side by side, and found one to have bright sustain and the other muted. (I have only found the Clapton models to be terrific). Not so with the various reviews over the past few years on the OM28V.

It is a fingerstyle guitar with enough oomph to strum. It is comfortable and your left hand will quickly adjust to the modified V. Give it 6 weeks and you'll play nothing else!

In fact, for a 2nd guitar, I have made a similar neck to be a deciding factor for me.

I am looking forward to hearing this instrument open up, over the years, and to see what light does to the aging toner. Those models that are a few years old look stunning, and reviews all say, without question, that this is a true "keeper" of a Martin!

It seems that they have hit on something terrific, with the beautiful pre-war (WWII) model.
