Taylor Big Baby

The Taylor Big Baby is the “big brother” to the Taylor’s travel-sized Baby Taylor. Similar in construction to its little sibling, the Big Baby is almost a full-sized dreadnought (actually 15/16 scale) with a matching sound. The Big Baby features a solid Sitka spruce top with a “Laser-Etched” soundhole rosette. The sides and back are made with Sapele Laminate—a plywood made from the tropical African hardwood reminiscent of mahogany and priced for its grain and durability. Why this guitar is joined “at the hip” to the Baby Taylor comes from the unique bolt on neck. Because the bolt-ons are much easier to build than traditionally glued heel/neck, the Big Baby is an American guitar that can compete price-wise with its Eastern neighbors. The bolt-on is extremely stable and gives a good joint for sound transmission. Arguably though—and perhaps to make up for some loss of high-frequency with the neck/body bolt joint—Taylor chose to use ebony for the saddle on the Big Baby as well as its little brother.
