If I Could Fly was released on Joe Satriani’s tenth studio album “Is There Love in Space?” in April 2003.
If I Could Fly gained some notice in 2008 when Joe Satriani sued Coldplay claiming copyright infringement. Satriani claimed the Coldplay song “Viva La Vida” had the same melody as his song. Fretbase has an article about the lawsuit and Coldplay’s response.

Apparently the case between Joe Satriani and Coldplay is in litigation now. Overall I do think there are some striking similarities between Joe's version and the Coldplay version. Hopefully Joe gets some recognition for his efforts.
